Choral Society kicks off new season with pops concert

The Hilton Head Choral Society will begin its 44th concert season with a pops concert, "September Song: Music for Family and Friends," at 7 p.m. Sept. 20 at Holy Family Catholic Church, 24 Pope Ave. on Hilton Head Island.

The fall concert, featuring featuring the 75-voice chorus with orchestra, is meant to soothe the soul and lift the spirit with tunes from pop radio, inspirational favorites, Broadway shows and more. Artistic Director Tim Reynolds has selected a diverse repertoire of family-friendly pieces, including a tribute to Doris Day, songs from the films "Mary Poppins" and "Mary Poppins Returns," and Broadway favorites "Climb Every Mountain," "You'll Never Walk Alone," and "The Impossible Dream."

A highlight of the evening promises to be "The Whole World Is Singing" with text in more than 10 languages.

Special guest artists for the pops concert include local favorite Lori Maurer as well as the 50-voice seventh and eighth grade Garrison Voices chorus from the Esther F. Garrison School for the Arts in Savannah, directed by John Tisbert.

The students will perform with the Choral Society and sing selections of their own.

"Lori and the Garrison Voices are definitely something we are excited about for the upcoming concert," Reynolds said. "It allows our singers and our audience to enjoy a multi-generational experience."

Each concert of the 44th season promises to bring the passion and power of music to this year's theme, "The Music in Us All." As the longest-running performing arts group on the island, the Choral Society's performances always guarantee a night of memorable entertainment.

Each 90-minute concert will begin at 7 p.m., an hour earlier than past seasons.

"The members of the Choral Society look forward to another incredible year of song," stated Barbara Sorkin, HHCS President. "We are confident that concert goers will enjoy each of our performances that offer eclectic, fun music with something for everyone."

Additional concerts in the season include the Christmas show, "Music of the Season," Dec. 13; the spring concert, "Music, By George," March 27; and the annual Memorial Day concert, "America Sings!" May 24.

Tickets are now available for the entire season. All seating is reserved. Order at or call 843-341-3818. Tickets may also be purchased at the door.
