More than 80 colleges and universities will make sales pitches to Beaufort County public and private high school students and their parents next week at a college fair at the University of South Carolina Beaufort's Bluffton campus.
The event will be held from 5:30 to 7:30 p.m. Oct. 2 at the USCB New River Recreation Center in Bluffton. There is no registration required for the drop-in event.
Schools advertising their programs to students will range from small private colleges to large public universities. Local schools will include the University of South Carolina-Beaufort and Technical College of the Lowcountry, while out-of-state schools will include universities such as Alabama, Florida State, Georgia and Tennessee.
Students and their parents may visit booths staffed by college and university representatives who will answer students' questions about academic offerings, tuition costs and scholarship opportunities.
Geri Henderson, director of secondary education for the school district, said the annual college fair will provide "one-stop shopping" for students and their parents.
"It's an opportunity to learn about what numerous schools have to offer, and to do that in a single evening and in a single location," Henderson said.
