Get (culture) rich quick with a visit to new Office

Here on Hilton Head Island you can discover treasure and get rich quick, just by heading to the office. That's the Office of Cultural Affairs, celebrating its one-year anniversary this month.

It's a resource that is already impacting our island's arts and culture scene, and it's a tangible example of Town efforts to elevate arts, culture and heritage with excellence - a pillar of our vision.

Under the leadership of its capable and creative director, Jenn McEwen, and with the support of the Town's volunteer Culture and Arts Advisory Committee (itself a testimony to the wealth of experience available at our fingertips), the Office is off to a great start on its mission: to promote and support the arts, culture and history resources of Hilton Head Island.

As a catalyst, the Office invites citizens and visitors alike to engage with its initiatives that showcase all of our wonderful, island-wide happenings.

Begin with a visit to the new website, CultureHHI.org, the one-stop shop for information about art, entertainment, history and cultural activities and organizations. A goal of the Office is to support the local arts and culture community by getting the word out and highlighting the depth of assets offered here.

The calendar found on the site is the most comprehensive listing of events on the island. And best of all, every artist, author, photographer, musician, historian, and arts and culture organization and business is welcome to create their own page to promote the great things they have going on. Find the registration page at CultureHHI.org/register.

When you visit CultureHHI.org, be sure to sign up to receive the biweekly email newsletter heralding events and featuring articles about unique islanders and activities. The Office of Cultural Affairs is also active on Facebook at CultureHHI and on Instagram at @Culture_HHI.

And please take a trip to Town Hall to visit the Office and its newly installed Artist's Gallery. Designed to celebrate the contributions to the Town by our arts community, this public forum creates a space appropriate to showcase our local artists and their work.

With this gallery, our Town has an opportunity to honor the role art plays in strengthening, sustaining and elevating our community. You can find the gallery directly outside the Benjamin M. Racusin Council Chambers on the administration hallway. All are welcome to visit.

The Artist's Gallery is presented in partnership with the Arts and Cultural Council of Hilton Head, and its opening is one of the highlighted events of Crescendo - October's month-long celebration of the arts, culture and history of Hilton Head Island. The Gallery itself is permanent, but the art installations will change throughout the year. Return regularly to enjoy each show.

Come along and discover riches through our island's art and culture activities and dive deep into the treasures islanders offer every day of the year.
