Members of the Hilton Head Area Home Builders Association (HBA) joined together Nov. 8 at the Sonesta Resort Hilton Head for the 20th annual LightHouse Awards Gala.

The event continued the tradition of honoring the area's top builders for their quality craftsmanship and design excellence. HBA also presented the 2019 Premier Builder of the Year honors to Ben Kennedy of Brighton Builders.

First introduced in 2012, the Premier Builder Program honors builder members who look first to their fellow HBA associate members when building or remodeling a home.

Builders must apply to the program and provide a full listing of all subcontractors, suppliers and industry professionals who have contributed to their projects over a full year's time.

To be approved, at least 80% of the builder member's subcontractor and suppliers list must be members of the HBA. In addition, the builder must attend at least one HBA event or meeting per quarter, actively recruit at least two new members to the HBA each year, and complete at least six hours of industry-related continuing education.

Nine HBA builder members currently hold the designation of Premier Builder for the 2019-2020 calendar year including: Allen Patterson of Allen Patterson Residential LLC; Ben Kennedy of Brighton Builders LLC; Brian Esposito of Esposito Construction Inc.; Brian Quinn of The Twelve Oaks Group; Matt Bader of Full Circle Development; Dave Gaal of Gaal Custom Homes & Remodeling; Randy Jeffcoat of Randy Jeffcoat Builders Inc.; Ron & Patricia Strimpfel of Reclamation By Design Ltd.; and Richard Creamer of Reminiscent Homes LLC.

Added in 2015 to the annual LightHouse Awards Program, the HBA's Premier Builder of the Year is presented to one Premier Builder Program participant who not only meets the program requirements, but takes, "doing business with a member" to a whole other level.

Kennedy has been an active member of the HBA from the moment he opened the doors at Brighton Builders just over seven years ago. He has served multiple terms as a builder director on the HBA's board of directors, he actively recruits and participates in the local HBA, and is active in service within the Lowcountry community and beyond.

In remarks as he was honored, Kennedy was lauded for setting "the standard high for home building excellence and there is no doubt he will continue to strengthen our HBA community for years to come."

Chartered in 1965 under the leadership of the late Joseph Fraser Jr., the Hilton Head Area Home Builders Association is a not for profit professional trade association of business professionals that represent, promote and support excellence in the home building industry through education, community service and environmental stewardship. The organization is made up of more than 500 member companies.
