Letters to the Editor

To the Editor:

Oh, what a contrast! On page 3A (Hilton Head Sun, March 6) we read the editor's beautiful reply to a Boston retiree seeking information about the Lowcountry. She points out the truthful beauty of this place. But then we get to page 4A and see the complete opposite.

This is my reply to Mr. Hammes:

No, conservatives are not opposed to "brown" immigration (as opposed to "green" immigration); we are opposed to "illegal" immigration.

No, conservatives are not opposed to anyone voting; we just want to make sure they are entitled to by simply showing some ID. More importantly, we respect the results of the vote. If they provide adverse results, we patiently wait for the next election and try again.

No, conservatives do not want women to die. We also do not want living babies to die.

No, conservatives do not support hate groups. As matter of fact, it is okay by us if you want to wear an Obama hat, or to have a pro-abortion march.

No, conservatives do not promote fear or having anyone removed from the country. But we would like to be able to propose differing philosophies without getting attacked.

No, conservatives do not oppose freedoms or what you do with your sex life. We would like to have the freedom to follow our religious beliefs and act accordingly.

No, conservatives do not denigrate the educated. We actually encourage good education, starting with the ability to choose a good school for our kids, and allowing civil debate of all sides at our universities without fear of retribution.
